Captain Logan Charman won the toss, and the Eight's were off, with Warwick Waitt opening score after 14 minutes, quickly followed by a second goal from open play. Herne Bay pulled a goal back from a penalty short corner. Then quite intense hockey was play with neither team giving an inch, until Warwick passed to Thomas Waitt who scored Folkestone’s third goal. Shortly afterwards Logan Charman broke on the right wing and scored the forth. However Herne Bay did not give up and pulled a goal back just before half time.

The second half started at pace with both teams defending well, however Thomas broke though again to score Folkestone’s 5th goal. Minutes late Herne Bay scored, but from the push back, Folkestone attacked with Clive Styles finding the back board. Herne Bay fought to get back into the game, scored to make the score 6-4 to Folkestone, which forced a restructure, with Warwick Waitt dropping back to centre half with Barry Lapthorn assisting. With Brian Murrill and Andy Whitham covering the “D”, Warwick defused every attack, and brought the game home.
