The newly formed Folkestone Optimists ladies 5s team had their first ever match in a friendly against Faversham on Saturday. After several training sessions getting to know each other and getting to grips with the rules, there were some nerves and excitement. The team was very much a mix of experience and ages but everyone was raring to go. Folkestone scored first from a short corner conversion by Janet Fuller with Faversham quickly equalising. With the youngsters of the team doing the majority of the running, we put lots of pressure on Faversham and in the second half Lily Rockall ran through the defence and slipped the ball through to Wendy Blackwell who scored. We continued to push for more goals and Hannah Downey converted another short corner in the final seconds of the game. A fantastic start with a 3 - 1 win - now onto the first league game next week! It was a great team performance from Ann Lancaster in goal, Kate Rockall, Hannah Downey, Cin Cocca, Anna Hegarty and Claire Rumsey in defence, Janet Fuller, Carris Clarke, Lily Rockall, Phoebe Norman, Lisa Quincey, Wendy Blackwell and Isobel Timmins up front. Well done the ladies 5s!
