A tense but deserved 3-2 victory away at Epsom on Sunday saw the u18 girls march into the semi-finals of the EH cup. This much anticipated match started off with few alarms as the girls set about their business, steadily exerting pressure on the opposition. Out the traps quickly in the second half, the girls continued to boss the game, this time the reward more instant, with Emily C’s strike deflected in off an Epsom stick. 2-0 and cruising, what could go wrong… unfortunately plenty…..! In what was to be a mad 20 minutes.

A combination of Epsom throwing caution to the wind and us taking the foot of the gas was all it took to shift the balance of what up until then had been a one-sided affair. Epsom now in the ascendancy were forcing numerous short corners whilst our defending was becoming increasingly desperate and panicked… Two goals in quick succession was the outcome, cue wild celebration from the Epsom contingent!

Four minutes left on the clock, momentum firmly with the opposition, things weren’t looking pretty… Not a bit of it! The girls woke up from their daze and absolutely tore into Epsom from the re-start, angry and almost affronted by what had happened we were now camped inside the oppositions 23 banging hard on the door! The short corner was inevitable and the resulting strike from Emily C a thing of beauty as it crashed into the backboard sparking total delirium from the girls!! Final score 3-2.

A group full of character and resilience who just don’t know when they’re beaten!!!
