The girls U16s had a rude awakening in their opening game of the season, suffering a 9-1 loss to a far stronger Marden side who we're playing Tier 1 hockey last year. Conceding in the first minute set the tone, and we were under the cosh from that point on, looking completely out of sorts in the first quarter. A change of positions lead to a brilliant second quarter, culminating in the single Folkestone goal being scored by Libby at the far post following excellent build up play by half of the team and the final assist coming from 'overseas international' Sofia. The second half was much more end to end, but Folkestone couldn't match Marden's prowess in front of goal, or their pace and power through the midfield. A disappointing result, but lots to work on before we play Knole Park in a fortnight.
