Optimist u14 boys started confident in their first cup game of the year against Marden. Marden, unfortunately, did not start with a goalie and ops attacked with great intensity to finish the first quarter 3-0 up. Ops held their structure successfully and intercepted Marden's attempt at playing a long through ball. The goalie appeared in the second quarter however ops continued to be threatening with many opportunities at goal and winning short corners resulting in a reverse strike goal. Marden managed a break through goal to end the half 4-1. The defenders controlled the game well and managed to ward off any chance of a marden attack, redistributing the ball to the midfield who worked tirelessly with the forwards resulting in many opportunities on goal. An excellent team performance including an excellent right side save from keeper William and a save on the line from a short corner drag flick by Thomas gave ops the confidence to continue attacking as a team which lead to a final score of 7-1.
