As winners of their division, the u14 girls took their place against fellow victors; Guildford, Oxted and Canterbury in the South East T3 finals day hosted at Three Hills. Each team played each other to decide who would prevail as overall champions.

The first match saw the girls up against Oxted. In the early stages it was the opposition who had the upper hand, enjoying plenty of possession without looking particularly threatening. However it was the girls, against the run of play who opened the scoring, with a fine move taking them the full length of the pitch and Sophie providing the finish. The second goal followed shortly after and was a carbon copy of the first, again Sophie on the end of it. 2-0 H/T. Second half and Oxted began to pile on the pressure eventually reducing the deficit, but the girls dug deep to hold on. F/T 2-1

Despite being the better team the second match against Guildford saw the girls play out a slightly subdued first half, H/T 0-0. Thankfully the girls responded to a half time ‘gee up’ and the style was turned on and the goals duly followed, with Evie G and Sophie involved in the first and a fine short corner strike from Evie G for the second. F/T 2-0.

So final game and a draw required to win the competition. Canterbury were the opponents and they came out firing going 1-0 ahead in the opening minutes, however the girls responded immediately as Evie G provided the finishing touch to another free flowing move. In the final moments of the half, last minute replacement Izzy T made it 2-1 with a solo effort. H/T 2-1. The second half saw a Canterbury onslaught but despite being dead on their feet the girls repelled everything thrown at them. To top it off, right at the death a breakaway goal coolly finished by Izzy P put the icing on the cake! F/T 3-1 Folkestone U14’s were deservedly crowned T3 South East champions!

An absolutely fantastic achievement from this close knit group, who fought so hard throughout the competition. Every time they were up against it they seemed to find another gear, demonstrating incredible resilience and determination. The quality of their hockey also shouldn’t be overlooked, some of the goals they scored were a joy to watch, proving just how talented they are. Congratulations to all on a great season, with the best most definitely being saved till last!

A special thank you to Kay who put a lot of time and effort into this group over the year, she should be rightly proud of their achievements.

Well done all!
