The Men’s 2s drew 3–3 in a very close contest against Holcombe. The side welcomed back Bono and Cheap, and with a strengthened lineup there was a noticeably positive energy across the team. Holcombe, sitting one place above in the league table, presented an opportunity for Ops to claim some crucial points in what was always going to be a tight game.

The first half saw both teams knocking on the door of scoring. Chances came from quick passing out of defence and through midfield, with Ball, Coombs, Fernaux, and Cheap finding gaps to exploit. Up front, the familiar skill and movement of Kyle G, Doyle, and the Hopkin brothers posed real questions for the Holcombe defence. However, it was Holcombe who broke the deadlock from a short corner just before half-time. A strong initial save from Brenchly left the ball loose in the D, and a quick reaction from Holcombe saw it fired home.

Down but far from out, Ops came into the second half with a point to prove. The added depth in defence allowed Shaw, Stone, and Rumsey to push forward and deliver several threatening balls across the D. After a few short corners of their own, it was Wishart who struck the backboard to level the score at 1–1.

Holcombe soon regained the lead, capitalising on a rare gap in the Ops defence to make it 1–2. But the team rallied once more. A dangerous cross into the D led to a deflection off the keeper, and captain Hopkin was quickest to react, slotting home the equaliser for 2–2.

With both sides battling hard for the win, Holcombe again found a way through, taking a 3–2 lead after an unfortunate deflection off a defender’s stick caught everyone off guard. In the dying moments, Ops earned one final short corner. The call from the top was simple: “Do what you did with the one you scored.” Wishart did exactly that sending another flick onto the backboard to seal a 3–3 draw. The team walked off with heads held high going to to the next away fixture at Maidstone.
