In the final game before the Christmas break, 3's entertained a New Beccs side who have scored plenty of goals, but also suffered some big defeats. Despite half the team feeling under the weather, Ops started fast, slicing through the defence and almost scoring inside the first 2 minutes, Dani seeing her sharp strike well saved. Ops didn't have long to wait though, almost immediately winning a penalty corner. Polly's trademark rocket strike was, for once, off target, but took a huge deflection off a defender into the goal. Ops piled on the pressure, winning a succession of penalty corners. Baxter saw her lob thump off the crossbar to safety before Em finished off a sharp sequence of passes between Janman and Sophie to put Ops 2 up. The hosts were then stunned by a breakaway goal to half their advantage.
That meant Ops started the 2nd half knowing the next goal was crucial. They were rewarded when Carris linked well with Geds and Izzy to put Em in for her 2nd goal and increase their advantage. New Beccs threw caution to the wind and piled players forward, but Sue was quick off her line to deny the opportunity and send Phoebe racing down the wing and draw a foul. Shaz took the free hit quickly to Sophie who slotted the ball through the keepers legs. The visitors scored a late consolation goal, but this result means that Ops 3's are the only team in the league to go unbeaten at the half way point.
