Ops made the short trip to local rivals Ashford full of confidence after going unbeaten in 5 games, while their hosts are yet to record a win. However, the visitors were rocked early in the match, a misplaced pass was pounced on, and Sue was given no chance. So, one nil down with barely 10 minutes played. Ashford swarmed Ops, but normal service had resumed in the defence as unflappable Vicki Baxter took control, ably assisted by Emma who was linking well with Izzy to create their own chances. But Ops couldn't make their penalty corners count, and increasingly, the final ball was going astray.
Time for a typically robust half time team talk from Polly, and as always, the team responded. Geds and Janman dominated the right side of the pitch, constantly releasing dangerous Phoebe, who raced into the D to win the penalty corner which Polly converted with a perfectly placed
rocket shot. With the scores level Ashford tried to park the bus, but Ops were having none of it. Sophie was all over the pitch, linking with Carris, Charlotte and Dani who were running hard to stretch the tiring hosts. The winning goal came from Em, who intercepted a loose ball, and executed a perfect shot on the turn into the bottom corner. A fine comeback means that Ops are now only one point behind league leaders Marden.
