The women’s 2s travelled to Sevenoaks determined to kick on from their maiden victory the previous week. While Ops struggled to deal with an unfamiliar pitch in the first exchanges Sevenoaks took the advantage, breaking through from midfield to find their pacy youngsters. Despite the early pressure the Ops defence held firm to keep them at bay. Ops built into the game and by midway in the first half had found their flow and were stringing passes together to work their way through the Oaks defence with one such foray from Poppy Rockall winning a short corner. While Oaks cut off the usual move between Adrienne Rowe and Emily Allon, Rowe had the coolness to spot Bea Allison in space on the back post to slip the ball past the Oaks keeper and take the lead. Buoyed by the goal, Ops pressed for a second with Laurel Fry and Izzy Prout both going close.
Oaks came out hard in the second half determined to find an equaliser but it wasn’t to be. The Ops defence of Allon, Erin Fuller, Rockall and Georgia Rawlins held tight as a unit, putting in a disciplined performance while midfielders Rowe, Prout, Carris Clarke & Livy Cheap covered every inch of the pitch to track down the Oaks attackers and support their defence. A hard fought and satisfying win for the 2s.
