The women’s 2s welcomed local rivals Ashford for an early season bottom of the table crunch match. Ops dominated from the start, limiting Ashford to just 1 shot throughout the entire game. Ops set their stall out early when youngster Poppy Rockall took on what felt like half the Ashford side down the right wing, storm-ing into the D and firing the ball goalwards for Livy Cheap to deftly deflect in to give Ops the lead within 5 minutes. The home side quickly doubled their lead when a break and through ball from Georgia Rawlins found Izzy Prout in the D, who spun on a sixpence to sling the ball into the bottom corner. Rawlins was in-volved again when her cross field ball picked out Emma Coley who drove the baseline and perfectly put the ball into the danger area for Bea Allison to finish on the back post.

The second half continued in the same vein, with Ops putting constant pressure on the Ashford defence with midfielders Carris Clarke & Abbie Hopkin finding space and distributing to the forward line. Ops kept knock-ing on the door and were rewarded midway through the second half when Adrienne Rowe’s quick free hit found Demi Broome who launched the ball into the roof of the net. As Ops pushed for more goals Ashford found some space in behind but were comfortably dealt with by centre back pairing Emily Allon & Erin Fuller. While their were more chances it was Broome who had the final say when Cheap bamboozled the Ashford defence to find Broome and put away her second from a tight angle. A great team performance to help build the teams confidence for the rest of the season.
