The women’s 2s travelled to Sevenoaks for what is always a well fought and competitive game. While Ops had the first few minutes of possession, Sevenoaks soon turned the tide and started stringing passes together to put pressure on the Ops defence. Despite resolute defending Sevenoaks were able to put 2 away in quick succession, 1 deflection and 1 strong strike. Ops struggled to get into the game in the first half but a stern half time team talk sent them out with renewed intensity. A tactical switch in formation gave Ops the chance to press higher up the pitch and this paid off when Poppy Rockall turned over the ball high up the pitch, drove at the Oaks D and won a short corner. For the second week in a row captain Adrienne Rowe stepped up to combine with Emily Brough and get Ops back in the game. Another short corner moments later nearly got Ops back on level terms but the ball squeezed just wide of the goal. Sevenoaks tried to pull further ahead but the strong tackling of Brough, Rockall and Erin Fuller plus some smart saves from keeper Amy Bumstead kept them at bay. A slow start but a strong finish gives Ops positives to move on to next week.
