The ladies 2s welcomed Sevenoaks for their crunch game at the weekend. Ops started the game well, find-ing wide space to attack the Sevenoaks defence but were unable to find a breakthrough. As the half went on an intense Sevenoaks press started to put the Ops backline under pressure with keeper Amy Bumstead needing to make a series of reaction saves. The Sevenoaks pressure finally paid out when a short corner broke down and Ops were deemed to have fouled the Sevenoaks attacker leading to a penalty stroke which they put away. Despite going behind Ops weren’t put off and continued to try and find an equaliser through until half time.

Sevenoaks started the second half in the same vein, pressing high to keep the Ops defence under pressure with both Katy Benson and Laurel Fry making important last ditch tackles to keep the game at 1-0. Ops always knew a good counter-attack could be the way back and when Adrienne Rowe turned the ball over in midfield and fed Isla Gallagher the side knew this was there chance. Emily Hamlyn over lapped the mid-fielder from defence and picked up the ball on the 25, driving at the D and unleashing a pinpoint reverse strike into the bottom corner to bring the game to 1-1. Unfortunately Sevenoaks broke with two quick coun-ters of their own to take the game to 3-1 and the game finished that way. Ops now travel to Burnt Ash in their final game of the season knowing they must get a result and hope that other games in the league go their way to stay up.
