The ladies 2s welcomed Tunbridge Wells on Saturday. The first half was played at an intense pace with both sides pushing to try and take an early lead. Both teams had opportunities throughout the half from open play and short corners but both defences held strong. Ops had the clearest chance midway through the first half with Demi Broome’s cross deflected at goal to leave the Wells keeper scrambling to make the save. Wells even had a run of 5 short corners leading up to half time but the Ops defence was well organised and cleared all their opportunities.

A lapse in defensive structure, an unfortunate deflection and a breakaway put Wells 3-0 by midway through the second half. Ops may have been down but they were no way out. A break from midfield saw Emily Hamlyn take on the Wells defence and unleash at goal. While the Wells keeper managed to get a hand to the ball, Emily Allon was on hand to force in the rebound at the post. With a sense of confidence coming back in to the Ops side they pressed Wells straight from the push back and some well worked leading in the D saw Allon unceremoniously taken out by the Wells keeper to win a penalty flick. Erin Fuller made no mistake in dispatching her stroke to make it 3-2. With just moments left on the clock Ops continued to press Wells hard to turnover possession but some experience gameplay from Wells saw them run down the clock to hold out for the win.
