Ops ladies 2nd XI headed off to Blackheath and Elthamians in hopes of some much needed points with a stellar squad. Ops took an early lead with a cheeky goal from Player of the Match Betsey Bowden. Emily Brough manipulated play in the D, earning a short corner where Adrienne Rowe set up Cleo Steer to slip the second goal in past the discombobulated keeper who couldn’t keep up with the Ops spectacular routine. Fired up, the opposition came back hard and forced Amy Bumstead to pull off a brilliant save, cool as a cucumber, and flicked away their attempt with a swish of the wrist. Defenders Katy Pace and Lucy Robbins worked well to link with Adrienne Rowe in the center, forcing opportunity after opportunity for the forward line. Betsy and Rosa Bowden surged back and forth across the pitch and Betsey picked up her second goal through the support of midfielders Sofie Goode and Emily Hamlyn. Clare Readman and Sophie Rumsey found themselves under renewed pressure in defence, however managed to distribute the ball straight back to the forward line via Sharon Harding and on to Chantelle Duncan who caused amazing chaos amongst the oppositions defence, enabling Betsey Bowden and Cleo Steer to combine forces for a second goal for Steer. A break in play saw a gap for Blackheath and Elthamians to take their chance and slide a goal in, however Emily MacMillan was not to be put off and surged back through the middle of the park to find Betsey Bowden in the D ready and waiting to put the fifth and final goal in for Ops to bring the score to a very healthy 5-1.
