Folkestone ladies 1s travelled to oxted to start the 2024/25 league. Always a tough opposition, Folkestone knew to give them respect but also felt well prepared going into the game after an excellent pre season preparation.
Oxted started quickly passing the ball neatly through the midfield and successfully getting balls forward to challenge the defence. Folkestone remained composed and successfully defended the first few waves of attack. Player of the match Becca smith, made some excellent saves to deny the oxted attackers. Nicki ball helped to steady the flow of the game and Folkestone confidently defended and began to gain some possession inside the oxted half. An odd umpiring decision led to Becca smith being shown a green card which meant Folkestone had to play for 2 mins without a goalkeeper but they managed the game and again, denied oxted from scoring.
At half time, Folkestone were happy with a scoreline of 0-0 and felt that they had the confidence to take the game to oxted in the second half.
The second half was much more even in terms of possession and the midfield players Ashley Taylor and Maddie Timmins linked up well with the forward line who managed to trouble the oxted keeper on a number of occasions. The Folkestone front 5 worked tirelessly and the defence maintained their concentration and remained calm and oxted still couldn’t convert their chances. The game finished 0-0 but for Folkestone it was an excellent away point against a side who will be pushing for promotion this year.
