Folkestone hosted aldershot and Farnham on Saturday. The game started fairly evenly with both sides having good attacking opportunities in the first half. Nicki Ball, Becky Wyatt and Claire Carter linked up well on the right to cause the Aldershot defence some problems. Aldershot had some consistent possession and prolonged attack in the middle of the first half and Folkestone managed to defend a number of short corners well controlled by keeper Becca Smith. Laurel Fry made some important tackles to keep the ball out and the first half finished 0-0.
Folkestone started the second half well and managed to create a number of opportunities which the Aldershot keeper successfully cleared. Aldershot had a number of chances created through the middle of the pitch and they were awarded a short corner which they converted. Folkestone took a moment to refocus and aldershot capitalised on this and penetrated the d again to score a second goal. Folkestone found themselves 2 goals down against the run of play but instead of keeping their heads down and accepting defeat the team stuck to the game plan and some good link up play between Maddie T and Claire Carter meant that Folkestone won a short corner which was neatly tucked away by Laurel Fry on the post.
With 6 minutes left and Folkestone with the momentum they believed that they could get a result from the game and a strong attacking run from Maddie R led to her playing the ball into Nicki Ball who returned it to her to slot neatly into the goal to make the score 2-2 with a few minutes to go. A strong point for the 1st team this week and a huge success to remain positive and focused to come back from behind.
