The men's first team went in to this match with 3 wins in a row, knowing that there was plenty of room for improvement on the 1-all draw in the reverse fixture. The first half was a nervous affair with Folkestone not making the most of their possession until Phil Ithurs ripped a short corner drag flick top right passed the Herne Bay keeper.
It wasn't long into the 2nd half before Folkestone were able to assert their dominance. Strong midfield play, with special mention to Jamie Hemphrey, built the platform for the forwards. Josh Clifford scored twice and Ithurs got his 2nd with another short corner.
Into the final 10 minutes of the match and Folkestone were pushing for more goals. Clifford completed his hatrick, from some selfless play by Chris Slade, meaning he has scored 12 goals in 3 games in 2023! Ithurs couldn't quite complete his hatrick, beating the keeper and defenders but saved by the post in another short corner effort, but was enough to secure Man of the Match.
A great team performance and excellent to get the first clean sheet in a league match.
