Folkestone Optimist Hockey Club were formed in 1926. Originally titled the “Optimist Hockey Club” as there was already an established club in Folkestone.
The story about its origins is believed to be that a group of players with the existing Folkestone Hockey Club broke away and were “optimistic” about getting other teams to play against them, thus the Optimist Hockey Club was formed. The first recorded game played by an Optimist team was on October 2nd, 1926 against a side from Southern Railway in Ashford. The club’s home for many years was the Pavilion at the County Ground in Cheriton, until they moved into the current modern facilities at Three Hills Sports Park in March 2013.
We currently have seven Men’s and five Ladies adult teams playing in leagues throughout the South East and a thriving Junior Section of over 200 children from age 5-18. The club now plays hockey throughout the year including mixed teams and indoor in our sports hall
Hockey is provided for all ages and abilities and coaching is provided to advance and develop as far as you can.
New members are always welcome, and the Club works particularly hard in promoting a friendly atmosphere for its members, opponents and visiting officials.
